Bullying is a major problem throughout the world today. In many cases, bullying can lead to self harm. In severe cases, bullying can even lead to death. No matter how someone is bullied; face to face; publicly over the internet or anonymously over the internet, all cause extreme pain to the victim. Through my own personal experience, I have learned that bullying can lead to extreme consequences.
A year ago this month, my family friend committed suicide because she could not handle the pain that she was being put through. Many believe that bullying can only be partaken through their peers but it can even be happening within your own family. My friend’s mother was constantly putting her down; telling her she was fat; not good enough and an embarrassment of a daughter. Ironically, her boyfriend had experienced the same bullying in his own home and in addition, became a constant drain on her emotional stability.
In one final incident, at college, he accused her of being untrustworthy and she felt that she had had enough of living with all the turmoil. She felt as if suicide was her best option of relief from all the constant suffering, and now has left nothing but heartache for her friends and family.
As you can see, bullying is a major problem today all throughout the world. If you ever see someone being bullied, do the right thing; recognize it, confront it and report it. Just by doing these three simple steps, you could help save a life.
