A Movie Summary by: Haley Cissel
The movie Cyberbully is about a teenage girl named Taylor Hillridge, who lives at home with her single mother and brother, Eric. Her two best friends, Samantha and Cheyenne always have her back through everything. Taylor attends high school, and feels as if a girl in her class, Lindsay, is out to get her.
On Taylor’s 17th birthday, she receives a computer as a gift. She then makes an account on a social media website; “Cliquester”. As a prank, her brother hacks into her account and puts a derogatory status on her webpage. She receives lots of ugly comments in return, and is afraid to go to school and face her friends. Unaware that Eric was the one to attack her account, she immediately turns to Lindsay to blame. Seeing the post, students at her school comment back “slut”, “whore”, etc. She is extremely embarrassed, but soon a stranger, a cute teenage boy, James, messages her and is comforting. She begins to have a crush on the boy, until James creates a rumor that Taylor slept with him. Her best friends, Samantha and Cheyenne, begin to turn on her. She hits an all time low, and feels as if life isn’t worth it.
She posts a video on her Cliquester account saying that she can’t live with herself; and says goodbye to her friends. Seeing this, Samantha rushes over to Taylor’s house to find her trying to commit suicide. She was stuffing pills in her throat, but luckily Samantha came in time to stop Taylor from killing herself. Taylor was then hospitalized. Taylor’s mom learns from the incident and goes to the school board to try to keep this bullying from happening to other students in the future.
Taylor begins to attend support group, and meets many other kids that are being bullied just like her. She finds that one of her classmates is in her group, Caleb, being bullied for being gay. Taylor soon finds out that her best friend Samantha was the one to create the profile of “James”, the online boy who started the rumor. Taylor is infuriated at first, but overtime forgives her and begins to rekindle their relationship. Taylor and her friends all help to pass a law that will help fight against bullying.

A "Cyber Bully" theme analysis by Haley Cissel
Bullying plays a major role in Cyberbully. Taylor Hillridge, a typical teenage girl, is bullied by people who are extremely close to her; people she would never expect to hurt her. She feels betrayed, neglected, and like she has no one to count on. When Taylor starts the account on Cliquester, she is unaware of the pain that she is about to experience.
The first time she is attacked, is when her brother, Eric, posted the status on her blog that said “Im a naughty girl; someone should spank me.” She then received lots of comments saying she was a whore, slut, etc. She then returns to school seeing that no one will talk to her. She is extremely embarrassed, and tries to explain to everyone how she was not the one to post the status. The boy who she likes, Scott, starts to ignore her. Her best friend Samantha has never been fond of Scott, because she believes he would just use her.
Nicely, one boy stands up for her, and online friend named James, and she starts to develop feelings for him. After talking to him for a while and forming a friendship, James spreads an online rumor that Taylor slept with him. She is once again viewed as a slut, even when she has done nothing wrong. She doesn’t know who to trust, who she can count on, etc.
Later on in the movie, she finds out that Samantha, her best friend, created a fake account “James”, in order to lead Taylor away from liking Scott. Taylor is in disbelief; she has been bullied by her own brother and best friend. With all of the depression that floods Taylor's body, she tries to kill herself. Bullying someone can lead to major consequences, and that is shown throughout this novel.
